Pinanga crassipes

$26

Pinanga crassipes, commonly known as the Thick-leaved Pinanga or Thick-leaved Palm, is a beautiful and relatively compact palm that can make an elegant addition to your indoor plant collection or garden. Here’s a guide to keeping your Pinanga crassipes healthy and thriving:

Light

  • Indirect Light: Pinanga crassipes prefers bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can scorch its leaves, so a spot with filtered light or partial shade is ideal.
  • Low Light Tolerance: It can tolerate lower light conditions, but its growth may be slower in such environments.

Temperature

  • Warm Temperatures: Keep the temperature between 65-80°F (18-27°C). It thrives in a warm environment and should be protected from cold drafts and temperatures below 50°F (10°C).

Humidity

  • High Humidity: Pinanga crassipes enjoys high humidity levels. Aim to keep the humidity around 60-80%. Regular misting or using a humidity tray can help maintain the right conditions.
  • Terrarium or Humid Room: It does well in a terrarium or a room with high humidity, such as a bathroom with good light.

Soil

  • Well-Draining Mix: Use a well-draining, peat-based potting mix. A mix of peat, perlite, and pine bark is ideal.
  • Avoid Waterlogging: Ensure the pot has drainage holes to prevent water from sitting at the bottom and causing root rot.

Watering

  • Consistent Moisture: Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Allow the top inch of soil to dry out before watering again.
  • Water Quality: Use room-temperature water and avoid using hard or chlorinated water if possible. Rainwater or distilled water can be a good option.

Fertilizing

  • Balanced Fertilizer: Feed your Pinanga crassipes with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce feeding in the fall and winter when growth slows down.
